SSSF CANOE / KAYAK DAY TRIP

Jonathon Dickinson State Park, Hope Sound, FL

 

In pursuit of the Trapper Nelson legacy on a federal and state designated "Wild and Scenic River."

 


What:


Consider enjoying a nice day on the Loxahatchee River either canoeing or kayaking.  The environment is natural and beautiful with wide and deep water for relatively easy 'way.'   Please bring food and drinks for yourself.  RSVP to Nikki McSweeney at nikapr@bellsouth.net as she will arrange car pooling.  Meet at the Jonathon Dickinson State Park Canoe Rental by 11 AM.

Total Estimated Time: 1 hour 20 minutes Total Estimated Distance: 68.4 miles.  See Map and rules

Prices:

You will handle your own canoe or kayak rentals.  It is a first-come, first-serve basis but that shouldn't be a problem in November.  Canoe two hours for $16.00 and $5.00 for each additional hour.  See Fee Schedule.

Carpooling:

Nikki McSweeney will arrange carpooling.  Some folks MIGHT meet at Carl's Furniture, 2301 W Atlantic Blvd, Pompano Beach, FL which is on the N side of Atlantic about 1/2 mile W of  I-95 in Pompano Beach.  See Map.

Optional:

There are lots of other features at the park including hiking trails, a tour boat and cabins.   See Jonathon Dickinson State Park Features.  Cabins can be rented but there is a two night minimum.  If interested you should call Tina on October 9th at 561-746-1466 to reserve as cabins can be reserved only 30 days prior.

The Bad:

The park claims a no alcohol policy.
